Changing the Fan Speed on SIRIS 3 Business and SIRIS 3 Enterprise

This article explains how to adjust the fan speed on Datto SIRIS 3 Business and SIRIS 3 Enterprise appliances.

SIRIS 3 Business and SIRIS 3 Enterprise appliances have IPMI-based fan speed controls. You can adjust the speed of the appliance's fans to reduce noise, or to increase air circulation. For SIRIS 3 Business, Datto recommends using the default fan speed setting. Do not set the fan speed on a SIRIS 3 Enterprise below 40. Use caution when adjusting appliance fan speeds. Hardware warranties may be voided if the hard drives reach 60 degrees Celsius.

Datto always recommends using the default fan settings (on most SIRIS devices, automatic or SMART; for SIRIS 3 Enterprise, no value lower than 40). If you change the fan speed to a different value, you will need to monitor the appliance's temperatures to ensure that they do not exceed safe thresholds.

NOTE: If you have not done so already, you will need to configure IPMI on the Datto appliance to perform this procedure.

1. Log into the Datto appliance's IPMI.

2. In the IPMI user interface's left pane, click Properties, followed by Utilities, as shown in Figure 2.

3. Scroll down to Fan Configuration. Set your desired fan speed in the PWM offset field, and click Submit, as shown in Figure 3.
