Can I paint my Access Point?

Can I paint my access point? Will painting it void the warranty?

  • Datto-managed Access Points

While it will not necessarily void your warranty, Datto does not recommend painting access points. If you choose to do so, the following guidelines apply:

  • Be careful not to get any paint inside the unit. Tape over LEDs, antenna connectors, screw holes, and any other types of openings in the device to prevent paint from getting inside.

  • Be careful of thermal issues - the white color of the device reflects light. Darker colors will absorb light, and may cause the device to overheat. Paint can also cover openings designed for air flow.

  • Choose paint carefully. Never use paint with metal flakes, lead, carbon, or any other conductive material, as this will greatly degrade the device's ability to operate. Certain paints contain conductive properties that can diminish the RF performance. This is especially true if used on the antennas.
