Backupify for O365: Why Are My OneDrive Backups Failing?



OneDrive services are never backed up.

Microsoft’s APIs may respond with a number of error codes, most commonly the 404 Not Found Error. There are several common causes: 

  • Intermittent API availability
    Microsoft’s APIs do experience intermittent outages that are not actionable. Our solution builds in multiple retry logic to reattempt the data capture as soon as possible.
  • User has not setup their OneDrive
    when a user is given access to Office 365, they must access the OneDrive app and walk through the setup process in order to provision OneDrive. If a user is licensed for OneDrive, but has not performed this step, Backupify will receive a 404 Not Found Error when trying to back up the user’s data. This will occur until the user provisions their OneDrive.
  • User has been recreated
    In the Microsoft system, if you’ve deleted a user and then reprovisioned them at a later date, even with the same original email address, Microsoft systems will append an integer to the OneDrive URL for the new account, because the original URL is not reusable. If this happens, our system must be updated accordingly by reaching out to either Microsoft Support (to have the URL reverted) or to the Backupify support team (sharing the new URL with integers) so that we can update our solution.
