Share Compatibility Mode: Seeing 'xwz-agentName' on the Network

Follow

Scope

This article explains why 'xwz-agentName' may appear on the local network.

Background

When accessing a Samba share on the local network, this may appear: xwz-agentName listed.

sambaShare.JPG

Cause

The particular agent that is being referenced has share compatibility mode enabled from the Datto Remote Web.

Share Compatibility creates a permanent path in Samba that the agent can back up to. This can help with some communication errors as well as some security restrictions on the server side. It should only be enabled under these circumstances:
  • An agent is experiencing the .datto is not found or not accessible error.
  • Some domain restrictions are preventing the agent from creating and accessing the temporary Samba path that is used during backup.
