This article discusses the use of Windows Process Explorer to determine some causes of high CPU usage. 

Background

Process Explorer is a Microsoft tool that works as an in-depth task manager. You can use it to determine if any processes on a machine are consuming too many resources. If your backups are running very slowly or if backups continue to time out, use this tool to help determine the cause.
