Storm season is back, bringing with it the potential for significant weather events. How Do I Sync Data from a RoundTrip to a Node (USB only)

Follow

Question

How do I sync data from a USB Roundtrip to a Datto Private Node?

Environment

  • Datto ALTO
  • Datto SIRIS

Process

Prerequistes

First, run a RoundTrip synchronization on the Datto appliance.

Ubuntu 10.04 is no longer supported. Please work with Datto Technical Support (partners.datto.com) to upgrade the Private Node.

Procedure

  1. Plug in all drives associated with the RoundTrip (either directly to the Node or a SyncStation).
  2. Find the drive letter of any of the drives plugged into the Node or SyncStation:
    blkid | grep crypto
In the following example, the drive is sdg (sdg2 refers to the first partition on drive letter g):
    root@server1234:~# blkid | grep crypto
    /dev/sdg2: UUID="3bc9031a-0136-4d1f-91d4-567327c21d1e" TYPE="crypto_LUKS"
  3. Create a screen to run the sync process.
    screen -S sync[sourceDattoHostName]
  4. If the RoundTrip drive is plugged directly into the Node, run this command: mountSync sd[driveLetter] localhost
  5. If the RoundTrip drive is plugged into a SyncStation, run this command: mountSync sd[driveLetter] server[number].dattobackup.com
  6. If you see the following prompt, press Enter:
Roundtrip-ng: I can't figure out what the enclosure ID is. Prompting user
    Please enter the enclosure id:
  7. Press CTRL + A +D, to detach from the screen.
  8. Check the process periodically.
A SyncStation will be limited to the inbound or outbound bandwidth at the site. If a RoundTrip is plugged directly into the server, it runs significantly faster.
  9. When the RoundTrip is complete, you will see output like the following:
    ------------------------- ROUNDTRIP DRIVE --------------------------
    # ##### ####### # #####
    # # # # # # ## # #

  10. Once the process is complete, kill the screen.
  11. Unplug the drives used for the RoundTrip.
  12. Send in a ticket to Datto Technical Support (partners.datto.com) to finish the migration.
Make sure datto-storage-node is installed once complete

Troubleshooting

If you run into any problems during this process, verify that the roundtrip-ng-privatenode software package is up to date by running:

apt-get update

apt-get install roundtrip-ng-privatenode
