What happens if I hit Google's daily API limit for my DattoSaaS Protection/Backupify 1.0 account?
- Datto SaaS Protection/Backupify 1.0 for G Suite
For some Google services and for some customers, Google has daily limits on how much data we can back up per day over the API. Due to these bandwidth restrictions, Backupify/Datto SaaS Protection for G Suite must limit the number of records backed up per job. The following services are bandwidth-restricted by Google:
- Google Sites
For a majority of our customers (and any customers who started service after 2016), we use REST API-based backups for Gmail, which do not have the per-day limit for backups explained below. To determine whether your domain's services are backed up with the REST API, contact Backupify/Datto SaaS Protection Support.
Google restricts the amount of data that can be accessed via IMAP per account per day. If that data threshold is crossed, Google can cut off IMAP access for the account. Due to this restriction, we must limit the amount of Gmail backups to approximately 1.5GB per day. For larger Gmail accounts, this means it can take several days for the initial backup to complete. After the initial backup completes, subsequent incremental Gmail backups smaller than 1.5GB per day will complete much faster.
Google Sites Backups:
Google restricts the amount of Sites data that can be accessed for your entire domain per day. If that data threshold is crossed then Google can cut off your domain's Sites access for 24 hours. Due to this restriction, we throttle our backups to approximately 1 GB of Sites records per day for the domain. For domains with a lot of Sites data, this means it can take several days for the initial backup to complete. After the initial backup completes, subsequent incremental backups smaller than 1GB per day will complete much faster.
These functional limitations are a result of Google's bandwidth restriction policies. For more information, contact Datto SaaS Protection/Backupify Technical Support
