Backupify uses the IMAP API to backup Gmail. However, IMAP has a very low daily upload limit, which can impact the speed with which Backupify can restore email. To speed up Gmail restores, customers can now also use Google’s Migration API.
1) Admin-initiated restores
For customers who joined Backupify in July, 2014, the Google’s Email Migration API is the default used for restores. This API does not have the same low daily upload limit and thus is a much faster restore experience.
For customers who joined Backupify before then, they may need to update their permissions to allow Backupify to use the Email Migration API. This is a simple setting in the Google Admin Console.
Go to admin.google.com > Marketplace Apps > Backupify > Data access. If you do not have permissions granted for the Email Migration API, you will see an “Approval Needed” notice. Click Grant data access.
This setting may take up to 24 hours to take effect.
2) Child user-initiated restores
Regardless of how long you’ve been a Backupify customer, if you want Gmail restores that your child users initiate to use the Email Migration API, child user access must be set.
Go to admin.google.com > Google Apps > Gmail > User Settings and select “Allow users to upload mail using the Email Migration API."
