Changing a MAC Address on a VirtualBox Virtual Machine

This article goes over how to change the MAC address through VirtualBox to give the server a different MAC address.

This procedure is used when a virtual machine needs to have the same MAC address as the physical machine it came from.

If the machine being protected has any software or hardware dependent on the MAC address, or there are certain domain restrictions and firewall restrictions that may require pairing from the MAC address, follow this procedure.

Example: VirtualBox Interface on a Datto Siris device

1. Select the VM from within VirtualBox GUI, and click on Settings.

2. Select the Network tab, and then select the correct adapter (Typically adapter 1)

3. Select the Advanced tab, and you will see the option to select the MAC address of the device. From there, you can assign the MAC of the machine that's being virtualized.

4. Once networking is enabled and the machine is spun up, the virtual instance should have the MAC address that was specified.
