SIRIS Virtual on Microsoft Hyper-V Setup

This article describes how to configure and deploy a SIRIS Virtual instance by using Hyper-V Manager.

Description

Prerequisites

Before proceeding with the steps described in this article, review the prerequisites for running SIRIS Virtual.

After reviewing the appropriate requirements, download the SIRIS Virtual VHDX image on https://download.datto.com.

Configure a Virtual Switch

1. In the list of hypervisors under Hyper-V Manager, right-click the hosting the SIRIS Virtual instance, and Click Virtual Switch Manager..., as shown in Figure 1.

2. Configure at least one virtual switch that the SIRIS Virtual instance will use. You can either use an existing virtual switch or add a new one.

When configuring a virtual switch, ensure that its Connection type uses an External network, as shown in Figure 2. Consult Hyper-V documentation for more information on configuring a virtual switch.

3. When you are finished configuring your virtual switch, click OK.

Create the New Virtual Machine

1. In the Actions menu of Hyper V-Manager, click New. Then, click Virtual Machine..., as shown in Figure 3. This will initiate the New Virtual Machine Wizard.

2. Read the overview in the Before You Begin section, then click Next, as shown in Figure 4.

3. For the Specify Name and Location section, enter the name of your virtual machine in the Name field, as shown in Figure 5. Click Next to proceed.

4. For the Specify Generation section, select Generation 1, as shown in Figure 6. Click Next to proceed.

5. For the Assign Memory section, enter at least 8192 MB in the Startup memory field, as shown in Figure 7. Click Next to proceed.

6. For the Configure Networking section, select the virtual switch you configured as part of the Configure a Virtual Switch section of this article, as shown in Figure 8. Click Next to proceed.

7. For the Connect a Virtual Hard Disk section, select Use an existing virtual disk and click the Browse button to locate and select your SIRIS Virtual VHDX, as shown in Figure 9. Click Next to proceed.

8. Review your configured settings in the Summary similar to the one shown in Figure 10, and click Finish to create your virtual machine.

Configuring the Virtual Machine

1. Right-click your newly created virtual machine in the Virtual Machines table of Hyper-V Manager, and select Settings..., as shown in Figure 11.

2. Select Processor, and increase the Number of virtual processors to 4, as shown in Figure 12.

3. Select your primary storage controller (in Figure 13 this is IDE Controller 0), select Hard Drive, and then select the Add button, as shown in Figure 13.

4. Select the Virtual hard disk option, then select the New button, as shown in Figure 14. This will initiate the New Virtual Disk Wizard.

5. Read the overview in the Before You Begin section, then click Next, as shown in Figure 15.

6. For the Choose Disk Format section, select VHDX, as shown in Figure 16. Click Next to proceed.

7. For the Choose Disk Type section, select Fixed Size, as shown in Figure 17. Click Next to proceed.

8. For the Specify Name and Location section, enter the Name of your VHDX and its Location, as shown in Figure 18. Feel free to enter any name or file location as you'd like. Click Next to proceed.

9. For the Configure Disk section, select Create a new blank virtual disk, and enter at least 1024 GB for its Size, as shown in Figure 19. Click Next to proceed.

10. Review your configured settings in the Summary similar to the one shown in Figure 20, then click Finish to create your virtual hard disk. This process may time to complete.

Starting the Virtual Machine

1. Right-click your newly created virtual machine in the Virtual Machines table of Hyper-V Manager, and select Start, as shown in Figure 21.

2. Double-click on the name of the virtual machine to open a console window displaying the Virtual Product Authorization process. For more information, read our Authorize a SIRIS Virtual Instance article.
