SIRIS, ALTO, and NAS: iSCSI Share Settings

Follow

Topic

This article explains the access control settings for a SIRIS iSCSI share.

Environment

  • Datto SIRIS
  • Datto ALTO
  • Datto NAS

Description

CHAP Authentication

The only Access Control List setting for iSCSI shares is CHAP Authentication.

Figure 1: CHAP Authentication

CHAP provides two levels of security:

  • One-way CHAP authentication: Only the remote client (the initiator) needs to provide a password to start a logon session with your share (the target).
  • Mutual CHAP authentication: Requires that both the client (the initiator) and your share (the target) authenticate each other.

Once you have configured your desired level of CHAP configuration on the backup appliance, if you have not done so already, configure the iSCSI initiator in your environment with the same CHAP settings. Contact the publisher of your initiator's operating system if you require assistance with server-side CHAP configuration.
