Configuring Desktop Client

This article details different ways you are able to configure the desktop client in order to synchronize only the files/folders you need.

Single Folder Sync:

Use these steps when you'd like to only have one local folder synchronized with your account.

After installing the Desktop Client using the steps provided here, the last page on the Configuration Wizard will present options to determine what you would like synced.

On this page you will be given options to select which data you'd like to have synced to your local desktop, as well as to which folder to sync this data into.

This is where you will select which folders on the server you would like synced with your local desktop

Local Folder

This is where you will select the local folder that all of the DattoDrive data will be synced into.

This configuration is recommended for most users

Specific Folder(s) Sync:

Use this configuration when you'd like to either sync multiple local folders with your account, or would like to setup a folder-folder sync between the two locations.

When initially configuring the desktop client, select "Skip folders configuration" to allow you to manually configure this afterwards.

After skipping that step, click "Finish" on the last page and open up the DattoDrive settings by clicking the System Tray icon and selecting "Settings..."

The settings page should look similar to the image below since we have not configured folders to be synced.

To begin configuring the first folder sync, select the "Add Folder Sync Connection" button shown above.

The first option you are presented is to select the local folder you would like to configure to sync with DattoDrive. By default, it will attempt to create a "dattodrive" folder within your user's home directory. If you'd like to select a different folder, select "Choose" and browse to the folder you want to be synced.

Once you have selected the local folder, select "Continue".

The next step will involve selecting the folder within DattoDrive you want this local folder to sync to.

Note: Leaving this option set to "/" will prevent adding additional local folders and will result in the same configuration the "Single Folder Sync" steps describe.

In the example below, I have created a folder named testDrive within DattoDrive to sync my local folder testDrive with. You also have the ability to create a new folder and chose that as your destination as well.

Once complete, select "Continue".

The next step allows you to select/deselect any remote subfolders there may be. If this folder was created in the last step, this page should be empty.

Once we are completed here, select "Add Sync Connection" to finialize the connection.

Below is an exampe of multiple local folders being added as a "Sync Connection".

Note: The option to add an additional "Folder Sync Connection" is still valid.

Repeat this process for any additional local folders you wish to add a sync connection with.
