Backupify/Datto SaaS Protection: How do usernames and passwords work?

Question

How do usernames and passwords work with Backupify/Datto SaaS Protection?

Environment

  • Backupify/Datto SaaS Protection for Office 365

Answer

Signing up for an Office 365 account

MSP/Partner: When you sign up for a Backupify/Datto SaaS Protection for Office 365 account, you should log in using OAuth and a global administrator user account with privileges to all users, services, and sites that you want to back up.

The MSP must be an administrator on the customer’s Office 365 suite or have administrator credentials for this setup process.

End-user: Backupify/Datto SaaS Protection login credentials are specific to Backupify/Datto SaaS Protection, and not related to your Office 365 login credentials.

Does SaaS Protection/Backupify store my Office 365 password?

No. We use OAuth2. Office 365 Global Admin grants the application access to their data through Microsoft when they authorize, and neither the global admin nor password used is stored.
