Disaster Recovery: Broker Scripts and Offsite VMs

Follow

Topic

As a partner, I would like to know how to use a broker VPN script to automatically connect my clients to an offsite VLAN and log them in with specific environmental variables already in place.

Environment

  • Datto Recovery Launchpad

Description

The client computer needs to not be connected to your LAN. In an actual DR, your servers would be down, and the VPN connection would be able to determine the correct FQDN to connect to, but in a production environment, having two servers with the same name up causes conflicts. The DNS server needs to be virtualized in the cloud, and connected to the VLAN. The Domain Controller needs to be virtualized in the cloud, and connected to the VLAN. The client computer needs to be connected to OpenVPN. The IP address of the DNS server needs to be specified for the VPN connection to use through Windows.
