Virtual Device Boots with No Network Adapters

Follow

Issue

When attempting to start a VM with networking, no network adapters are present in the virtualization's Device Manager.

Environment

  • Microsoft Windows virtualizations

Cause

The network adapter is present, but hidden in the Device Manager.

Resolution

1. Verify that you have booted the virtualization with networking. If you have not, unmount the virtualization, and remount it with an applicable networking option.

2. If the virtualization has networking, follow the steps outlined in Microsoft's KB 315539: Device Manager does not display devices that are not connected (external link) to restore the virtual adapter.

If you continue to experience this issue after following the steps provided, contact Datto Technical Support for assistance.
