Cloud Agent Templates

Topic

This article describes the Agent Templates feature available for Datto Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery (BCDR) appliances.

NOTE  This option is unavailable for SIRIS Private replicated snapshots.

Environment

  • Datto SIRIS
  • Datto ALTO

Description

The Agent Templates feature allows a device operator to save the backup configuration of a protected system to a cloud template and apply it to another protected system on the same appliance, or to a different appliance. By using templates, an administrator can define standardized and consistent agent configurations, and deploy them to existing and newly-protected systems.

The templates you create are saved to the reseller account of the Datto appliance which created them. Any device associated with the same reseller will be able to see and use the templates.

IMPORTANT  Once you create a template, you cannot rename, edit, or delete it.

Creating and Applying Templates

You can create and apply templates in two ways:

  • For newly-protected systems, you can use the Protect wizard during the agent pairing process.
  • For existing systems, you can use Configure Agent Settings section of the Datto appliance GUI.

To learn about template creation & management for newly-protected systems, see our Protect a System Wizard Knowledge Base article.

To learn about template creation & management for existing systems, see the next section of this article.

Configuring Agent Templates

To manage agent templates from your Datto appliance, perform the following steps:

  1. Access the GUI of your Datto appliance.

  2. Click the Protect tab.

  3. From the Backup Agents page, click the Configure Agent Settings link next to the system you'd like to manage.

  4. From the Configure Agent Settings page, scroll to Advanced > Manage Agent Templates.

The Manage Agent Templates card allows you to perform the following functions:

  • Create Template from Agent: This option allows you to save the selected system's backup configuration as a new template. Enter an easily-identifiable name for the backup configuration in the Template Name box, and click Create Template to save the current configuration.
  • Apply Template to Agent: This option allows you to apply an existing backup configuration to the selected agent. From the Select Template dropdown, choose a saved configuration, and then click Apply Template. The new backup configuration will be applied, and the Configure Agent Settings page will refresh to reflect the changes.
