NAS Guard: External NAS backup fails with "file has vanished" or "permission denied"

Issue

When backing up an external NAS share using NAS Guard, the error messages file has vanished or permission denied display.

Environment

  • Datto NAS
  • NAS Guard

Cause

  • A file has moved during the snapshotting process.
  • The configured user used to communicate to the share lacks sufficient privileges or permissions to view a file.

Resolution

  1. Ensure no file moving operations take place during a queued snapshot.
  2. Ensure the user associated with accessing the external NAS share has permissions to view all files and folders within the share. This user is defined in the Credentials field during its initial configuration.
