The Datto Cloud infrastructure resides in numerous colocation facilities worldwide, with one facility in mainland Australia. Datto’s Australian data centers are audited annually according to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 27001 standard.
Datto’s Cloud Engineering team proactively monitors and maintains the servers of the Datto Cloud. The team ensures the health and optimization of hardware, oversees OS updates, and conducts necessary patching.
Data in transit from local Datto devices to the Datto Cloud is encrypted using AES 256-bit encryption. Certain Datto products have an optional local encryption feature that enables customers to encrypt backed-up data on their local devices. This encryption feature allows them to transmit
encrypted data to the Datto Cloud, where it is stored in an encrypted manner.
Datto Cloud Engineering’s access to Datto Cloud servers is granted via RSA SSH keys and two-factor authentication.
Physical access to the Datto Cloud servers held in Datto’s Australian colocation facilities is guarded 24/7 by personnel, biometric scanning, CCTV, and activity logging.
Data Residency and Data Centers for Datto BDR Products
Datto devices purchased from Datto resellers located in Australia are typically set to back up to colocation facilities situated in Australia, and such data remains in Australia unless the customer later changes such setting. Datto customers also can manage the retention settings associated with backups stored both on the Datto devices and in the Datto Cloud, in conformance with the service level purchased by the customer.
The Datto Cloud colocation facility located in Australia provides for various safeguards focused on fault tolerance and security. Some of those safeguards include:
- N+1 redundancy, utility feed, backup generators, onsite fuel storage, and UPS battery systems
- Multiple physical entry points
- N+1 redundancy on chillers and N+25% on CRAC units, industry-grade passive and active HVAC systems regulate temperature and humidity
- SSAE16/ISAE3402 SOC 1 Type II, ISO 27001, PCI-DSS
