Question

How do I add extended logging to Datto RMM?

Environment

  • Datto RMM

Answer

This article shows how to add the extra logging or debug mode, which allows the Datto RMM agent to record verbose troubleshooting information to Datto RMM service log.txt files.

Remember to remove the extended logging on the devices after gathering the trace logs.

To enable extended logging for %ProgramFiles(x86)%\CentraStage\log.txt

1.On the device, navigate to:

• 32-bit version of Windows - %ProgramFiles%\CentraStage\nlog.config
• 64-bit version of Windows - %ProgramFiles(x86)%\CentraStage\nlog.config

You may need to change the write permissions for the nlog.config file in order to edit the file and save the changes.

2. Right click on nlog.config.

3. Change the line from:

logger name="*" minlevel="Info" writeTo="file" />

To:

logger name="*" minlevel="Trace" writeTo="file" />

4. Save and exit the file

5. Restart the Datto RMM Agent

Now when you view the Log.txt file the extra lines containing DEBUG information will appear.

Enable extended logging

Extended logging for the aemagent.log is in this location on the device: %programdata%\CentraStage\AEMAgent\Aemagent.exe.config.

You may need to change the write permissions for the nlog.config file to allow you to edit the file and save the changes.

2. Right click on Aemagent.exe.config and edit.

FROM:

<rules>
<logger name="log" minlevel="info" writeTo="log,console">
</logger>
<logger name="alert" minlevel="info" writeTo="alert">
</logger>
<logger name="error" minlevel="info" writeTo="error">
</logger>
<logger name="poll" minlevel="info" writeTo="poll">
</logger>
</rules>

TO:

<rules>
<logger name="log" minlevel="trace" writeTo="log,console">
</logger>
<logger name="alert" minlevel="trace" writeTo="alert">
</logger>
<logger name="error" minlevel="trace" writeTo="error">
</logger>
<logger name="poll" minlevel="trace" writeTo="poll">
</logger>
</rules>

Now when you view the Log.txt file the extra lines containing DEBUG information will appear.
