Datto RMM: Patch Management Policy Installs Incorrect Patches



When you use the Datto RMM Patch Management Policy, it installs incorrect patches on your device.

Before contacting Datto Technical support, perform as many of these steps as possible:

Review patches against policy criteria

Remove any unwanted patches from the policy criteria, and add references to your desired patches as needed.

Verify Datto RMM performed the installation

Ensure that only Datto RMM attempted the patch installation by viewing the Datto RMM service log files.

Review the WindowsUpdate log

This file contains all logging information from Windows Updates. On Windows 10 you may need to build the log via the PowerShell command below as Windows 10 now uses Event Tracing for Windows (ETW):


If this behavior continues, contact Datto Technical Support and have the following information or files ready:

  • UIDs of affected devices
  • ID/names of affected polices
  • Datto RMM service logs
  • Windows Event logs in .evtx format
