Legacy Open Mesh: What Does the PoE Warning sticker on the OM2P Access Point mean?

Follow

Question

What does the PoE Warning sticker on the OM2P Access Point mean?

Environment

  • Open Mesh OM2P Access Points

Answer

Open Mesh devices run on 12-24V passive PoE, which is much lower than the typical 48V standard. Some OM series devices are not compatible with 48 V PoE provided by PoE switches. Plugging an Open Mesh device into an older 48 V switch can potentially harm the OM2P.

All OM series devices will run perfectly between 12-24 V. We also provide our own set of power injectors that are available on our website.

The OM2P-HS v2 model Access Point (May 2014 and later) can run on a PoE switch, since it supports standard 802.3af PoE in addition to passive PoE.
