Datto Networking: Datto MP60: Flashing Device Firmware

Follow

Topic

This article describes how to flash firmware releases onto a Datto MP60 Managed Power Device using a flashing utility.

Environment

  • Datto MP60
  • Microsoft Windows

Description

On April 16, 2019, Datto will proactively update our server certificates; MP60s not upgraded to firmware version 6.4.16 by this date will no longer check in, preventing device management, reporting, and automatic upgrades. See this article for important information.

An MP60 may require a reinstall of its firmware as a troubleshooting step. You will need to flash the firmware release manually onto the MP60.

Procedure

1. Install WinPcap(external link)

2. Download the MP60 firmware flashing utility:

3. Open an elevated command prompt on the Windows machine containing the flashing utility. Navigate to the utility's directory, input its file name (in this example, open-mesh-flash-ng), then press Enter. A usage prompt should display.

4. Run the following command: open-mesh-flash-ng n, n being the number associated with the Ethernet port that will communicate to the MP60.

5. Connect your MP60 to the Ethernet port specified in step 4, and power it on. A crossover cable is not required. If the device was previously powered on, Power cycle it before continuing.

6. Verify the output of the flash utility is similar to Figure 3. Once it is available on the network, the utility will display the device's MAC address and device type. If you chose a virtual NIC, additional devices might populate in the command's output before reaching the desired device.

The process will take 3-15 minutes to complete. If nothing displays after 10 seconds, power cycle the MP60, or connect to a different Ethernet port.

7. Run the command open-mesh-flash-ng -v to verify the MP60's current firmware version.

8. Exit the utility, or connect another MP60 to run the same flashing process.

Datto Networking Portal

After flashing the firmware, follow these steps in the Datto Networking Portal for your MP60:

1. Verify the MP60 is configured to run on the new firmware version, and disable automatic updates. Both configurations are found on the Maintenance page.

2. After reconnecting your MP60 to your network, re-pair it.

Recently flashed MP60s may take up to 40 minutes to check-in.
