What are billable seats in BackupifyDatto SaaS Protection?

  • Backupify/Datto SaaS Protection for G Suite
  • Backupify/Datto SaaS Protection for Office 365

Billable seats are the services for which Backupify/Datto SaaS Protection charges a license.

What is considered a billable seat?

  • Protected users are charged one license each.
  • SharePoint Sites (Office 365 only) are charged one license in total, regardless of the number of Sites you back up.

Protected users

Datto bills for user accounts that have the following seat statuses in Backupify/Datto SaaS Protection:

  • Active
  • Paused
  • Archived

To learn more about these statuses, visit the following article: Backupify/Datto SaaS Protection: Seat status categories.

SharePoint sites (Office 365 only)

Datto charges a single license fee for unlimited SharePoint site protection. You will only receive a bill for SharePoint protection if you are actively using it.

To learn more about managing SharePoint sites, visit the following article: Backupify/Datto SaaS Protection: SharePoint Site management.

What is considered a non-billable seat?

  • Unprotected users
  • Shared Mailboxes (Office 365 only)
  • Team Drives (G Suite only)

What is billable usage?

  • For 1-year commitment terms: Billable usage is the maximum of either your committed license cap or of the largest number of seats you have had protected during the commitment term.
  • For month-to-month terms: Your billable usage is the total of your current usage.

Unprotected users

Datto does not bill for a user seat type that is in an Unprotected status.

To learn more about these statuses, visit the following article: Backupify/Datto SaaS Protection: Seat status categories.

Shared Mailboxes (Office 365 only)

Datto will only charge for a Shared Mailbox if it takes up a license in your Office 365 environment. If your mailbox is taking up a license in your Office 365 environment, Datto will count the mailbox as a licensed user. For this reason, Datto will consider the Shared Mailbox as a user seat type and will charge a license fee.

A Shared Mailbox has a license in the Office 365 environment because of one of the following reasons:

  • The Shared Mailbox has over 50 GB of storage, at which point Microsoft requires a license.
  • The Microsoft user account converts to a Shared Mailbox, and the Microsoft license was not removed from the account.

Shared Drives (G Suite only)

Datto does not charge for Shared Drives.
